Q. Why use AScribe?
News organizations are choking on paper. Given today's technologies, newspapers are even less inclined to deal with the volumes of news releases that still arrive by mail or fax. Personal phone calls can be even less effective. Editors and reporters are best equipped to view, respond, access, forward or archive news releases that arrive on a credible wire into their newsroom computers. AScribe's newswire is delivered in the same manner and across the same trusted AP network as other major wire services, providing significant value at significantly lower per-release prices.

Organizations need a fast, effective and cost-efficient way to get their news releases to web sites, portals and other Internet services where many people now go for news and information.

Organizations need to have their news releases archived and available in the major electronic databases, which are strongly preferred by journalists and research professionals for the corporate and government sectors.

Q. Who uses AScribe?
Established organizations with news to tell: More than 500 of the nation's leading nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities, medical centers, research labs, public-policy organizations, government agencies and philanthropic foundations.

AScribe also distributes news for public relations or communications consultancies, and businesses with public interest news to share. For a list of AScribe members, click here.

The nation's leading national media organizations and journalists also request and use AScribe because of the diversity of news that is carried on the wire each day.

In four years, AScribe has built an unrivaled national reputation with the media and online content world as the most reliable and professional public interest newswire. For a partial list of national media organizations that have requested and receive the daily AScribe newswire feed, click here.

Q. Where does AScribe send my news?
The AScribe newsfeed is sent -- by specific request only -- to the newsroom desks of the writers and editors of the largest daily newspapers in the country.

To receive the AScribe feed, newsroom managers must specifically request it. They get the AScribe wire because they've asked for it.

Also receiving the AScribe by request are the leading national news magazines and trade publications, radio and broadcast networks, online portals, web sites, intranets and other Internet-based publications.

Q. Does AScribe edit or change news releases it receives?
No. Our members write and edit their own news releases. AScribe is not an editorial service, nor do we have an editorial viewpoint or style.

Occasionally, if our newsroom staff spots spelling or typographical errors, or believes that some alteration to a headline might make the release more notable to wire editors, they call the client to discuss and receive approval before any changes are made.

AScribe does add formatting essential for digital wire service transmission, and categorization for database archiving.

Q. How much does AScribe cost?
An AScribe annual membership is $125.

AScribe members purchase prepaid packages of releases which may be used at any time as long as the annual membership is current. Since there is no shelf life on a prepaid release, many AScribe members budget for a stockpile of releases which are unaffected by future price changes.

The cost per release varies varies depending upon the number of releases purchased. Current rates are between $50-85 for non-profit members. Click here for more information.

Q. How quickly can AScribe distribute my news?
Within 30-60 minutes. Or faster.

AScribe also has the ability to process and hold releases for a later time or date - to facilitate compliance with embargo requirements for scientific or medical journals, to synchronize with other news events or to employ an orchestrated release schedule.

Q. Can public-relations agencies become AScribe members and distribute news releases on the wire?
Yes. Many organizations that create or develop news of public interest are served by outside consultants or public relations agencies. AScribe has a special rate to help these professionals use the Newswire to broaden and strengthen the media relations initiatives and strategies of their clients.

Q. How do I distribute a news release on the AScribe wire?
It couldn't be simpler.

AScribe has established a remarkably simple procedure for members to put their news on the wire. Generally, the process is as easy as sending your news release to our newsroom in the form of a plain-text email message. We take it from there - and get your news to the media in as little as 30 minutes after your release is received in our newsroom.

Q. What if I only have one or two releases a year?
You can buy a smaller package of five or 10 news releases and annual membership. Releases not used in your first membership year roll over into the next. AScribe also offers a single release service called AScribeNOW. For $375, AScribe will distribute your news release in the same timely and effective news stream as our members' wire. In a matter of minutes, your news can reach the news desks of the country's major national and metro newspapers, electronic news archives such as LexisNexis and GoogleNews and hundreds of web sites and portal.

Q. How can I get news from the AScribe wire for my web site?
Click here to email a request for an AScribe newsfeed to your web site, portal, intranet or other Internet-based service. We provide releases and feeds on specific topics or from particular institutions. We also customize feeds for geographic regions or demographic groups.

Q. How can I track where my news appears?
Most commonly, the designated contact on a release will be contacted directly by a reporter or editor about a release prior to an article being published. This provides our users with the most effective feedback on who is seeing and using their news!

And because AScribe is not a tracking service, we don't provide that service. We'd we'd be happy to recommend one, however.

We do survey print and online publications, and provide information back to clients when we spot coverage as time allows.

Q. Can businesses or corporations distribute their news on the AScribe wire?
Yes. AScribe is focused on distributing news that is "in the public interest." Many corporations sponsor pro-bono initiatives and foundations which use the AScribe wire already. For a partial list of corporate clients, click here.
